GENERAL OUTLOOK
The typical summertime pattern continues with the subtropical ridge in the western Atlantic through the middle of next week. This will lead to daily diurnal shower and thunderstorm chances into the middle of the workweek. A cold front approaches the area from the northwest on Wednesday before tracking over the Carolinas Thursday into Friday. This will keep shower and thunderstorm chances around through the end of the workweek. Expect a cooler and less humid airmass behind the front heading into next weekend.

...PATCHY DENSE FOG DEVELOPING THIS MORNING ACROSS THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS...
Areas of fog will develop across the mountains and foothills through mid-morning, and the fog may become dense in locations along the mountain river valleys and in foothill areas where appreciable rain fell yesterday. The patchy dense fog will reduce visibility to one-quarter mile or less at times and may be quite variable over short distances.
Use caution if driving this morning. Allow extra travel time and stopping distance. Use low-beam headlights and fog lamps if you encounter dense fog. The visibility should start improving between 9 and 10 am EDT.
Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected today, especially in the afternoon and early evening hours. Localized flooding is possible due to saturated soils and heavy downpours. Isolated damaging wind gusts are also possible in the strongest storms.
There may be a slight lull Monday and Tuesday in the strong storm and flooding threat, but on Wednesday stronger storms and heavier rains are expected to increase again, with some storms continuing into Wednesday night and Thursday for parts of the area. Friday and Saturday look quiet.

A tropical wave located near the west coast of Africa is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the far eastern tropical Atlantic. Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for gradual development of this system while it moves westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic, and a tropical depression could form around the middle part of week.
