GENERAL OUTLOOK

An unsettled pattern with showers and thunderstorms will continue through the weekend. A backdoor cold front dropping in from the north will keep shower and thunderstorm chances Sunday night into Monday. Surface high pressure returns Tuesday and should keep most of the forecast period dry with only a few lingering showers. Another system may approach the area late next week with a return of rain chances. Temperatures will feel more the like the start of summer over the weekend and at or slightly below average early next week behind the backdoor front.

...PATCHY DENSE FOG TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE REGION EARLY THIS MORNING...

Areas of fog will develop across northeast Georgia, Upstate South Carolina, and the mountains and foothills of western North Carolina through daybreak and then linger into the mid-morning hours. Some locations will see the visibility drop to one-quarter to one-half mile at times in dense fog. The fog may be quite variable in space and time.

Be prepared to encounter patchy dense fog if traveling in the region this morning. Use low beam headlights and fog lamps while driving in fog. Allow extra travel time and stopping distance. THIS AFTERNOON

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will likely develop over the higher terrain during the afternoon and move eastward across the Piedmont and Upstate as the day wears on. The main threats with any of these storms will be cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, and heavy downpours.
