Snake in the House!!!

Early this morning as I watched Andromeda on the SciFi channel, a snake came out of the stove pipe.
It was black, and about 12 inches of it emerged before I was on my feet. There was a Cane Knife in the back of my truck that would fit the bill perfect for snake removal. I heard it thump on the linoleum as I made tracks.

I got back perhaps 30 to 45 seconds later, but no snake was to be seen. An hour later, and with considerable furniture moving, still no snake. I was quite shaken and juiced up on adrenaline, not liking snakes in general, and certainly not in the house in particular.

I eventually got to sleep around 7am (behind a well-fortified and sealed door) and had to wake up around 9ish to go into town and do laundry. I will probably never feel less than nervous for a couple of weeks over this incident. I told my grandfather about it, and he didn't seem to concerned. So I guess I shouldn't either, but EEEWWW!!! I HATE SNAKES! Worse that Indiana Jones in Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

I found a shed snake skin matching the apprx. sixe of the intruder hanging from the chimney about 10 feet off the ground. Only thing I can figure is the rascal was tracking the small of mice and fell into the chimney.

I researched solutions to my problem and found a nifty web site called thriftyfun.com. It helped me feel some-what better and gave potential solutions and future preventions. Also clued me in to the likely id of my new boarder: a Black Rat Snake.

If I see him/her/it in my bedroom, I'm camping out in the truck!

The site has digital images of people (mostly in Europe) telling the Terrorists that they are not afraid. Brings my morale up a notch or two to be reminded that there are still great human beings left in Europe, and we shouldn't forget them or count them out just yet.

I'm Back! War of the Worlds movie review

Ok, I think things are running ok at WNC Citizens Blog. We got rained out Friday afternoon right before 2pm, and I stayed in the truck listening to "Heads Up America" before I left the job site. I started my three day weekend early by... going home and to sleep!

Saturday, I went to Ruby Cinemas in Franklin and watched the 2.10 pm showing of "War of the Worlds."

Spoiler Warning! Read no further in this post if you haven't seen the movie and/or don't want to know!!!

Normally, I don't care for "re-imagings" of movies or of books. I hold the original book by the original author as cannon. That being said, the 1950's version was so bad, almost anything could be an improvement.

My major problem with the movie is an apparent lack of consistent model size on the walkers (tripods), their size changed from a couple hundred feet to maybe 500, then down to a hundred feet.

The movie began in modern times with Morgan Freeman, I think, speaking the prologue. That was done very well. The aliens use of lightning strikes to ride down to previously buried walkers was a stupid idea. Whoever thought of that should be horselaughed out of Hollywood. Another problem I have with the movie is that the Paramount name was on it. They have ruined the Star Trek franchise, and I attend their (Paramount) offerings with great trepidation.

The general story line is good, and I thought the actors performed well. I appreciated the use of the 10th Mtn Division from Ft. Drum , New York in the story, although as a certified military entusiast, I wanted to see more use of Air Force assets, including a demonstration of the walkers surviving a nuke blast... even a small atomic demolition device! I realize even with The Great One (Speilberg) involved, the Paramount pukes wouldn't fork over enough cash for special effects. Remember Lord of the Rings has changed audience expectations forever!

Overall, I give the movie 8 out of 10 pigs.

10 If this movie doesn't win an Oscar, well, we already know that Hollywood rarely rewards movies of this calibre anyway, as it probably
has too much in it for Red Staters to cherish!!!

It finally rained at work yesterday. I was able to go to the public library and create the http://wnccb.blogspot.com WNC Citizens Blog and put some links up. I goofed up the e-mail to Don, who is active in the Weaverville, NC resolution to render the SCOTUS Kelo v New London amendment to the 5th Amendment. I messed up the links I included in the message, and had to call him by phone to give him the corrections. : (

I've also solicited assistance from people in the Blogosphere, since I am very new to blogging, and still in a steep learning curve ( At times I sympathise with Sisyphus! ), and appreciate any ideas.

I have spent the weekend studying the recent above mentioned case, and my head hurts from all the legalese. If I ever bacame dictator or emporer, lawyers would be the first to go, then legalese, plain language would be the language of the court.

What can be done about it? IMHO...Not very much. On the local level, people have to become citizen activists and through voter pressure, force their local governments to pass ordinances making it illegal to use the supreme court decision to wipe out the public use clause of the 5th amendment.

_Other than that? The House of Representatives must begin the impeachment process of the offending justices, or Congress make law regarding this decision and declare it outside the jurisdction of the court. FAT CHANCE.

Is the American Dream Dying?

About noon yesterday, the news began breaking. the Supreme Court Of The United States (SCOTUS) vastly altered the meaning of eminient dominion, I mean domain. Now local governments have been given permission to 'supersize' their feeding trough, I mean property taxes.

UN uses mayors to end-run the Congress and Presient?

Yesterday was a Good Day. I got a lot done clearing land and was able to listen to the radio all day. Ken Bagwells' show, "Heads Up America" had as a guest a fellow named Tom Deweese of the American Policy Center. He told about the United Nations' use of Mayors to get around the Congree and President by having them to enact the Rio Summit and Kyoto Protocols on a local level. More on that in later posts. I believe I now have a mission.

That is why this post is being written now instead of two hours ago, I spent a little time downloading articles relating to this field of endeavour. Even at 28.8 k, it's still going to be a lot of reading. Gotta run.

Sleeper Cell in California

Another sleeper cell has been uncovered in California. I wonder why the media just don't get it. Every Muslim that I have ever met and talked to at length has subscribed to outlandish conspiracy theories before and after 9-11. I know other people who aren't Muslim who subscribe to them as well, but not as universally as the Muslims. There is also the Islamic practice of Taqqiyah (spelling uncertain) that says it is okay to disimulate or lie to unbelievers. So, even if Muslims say they don't believe in terrorism as a legit tactic, how can we believe they are telling the truth?

Rainy Afternoons

This summer pattern of afternoon rain is okay, if it rains instead of just sprinkles. Tuesday, we got rained out at four-thirty with a good downpour, complete with lightning. Yesterday, just sprinkles, with one good 90 second teaser downpour. Enough to make us miserable when the sun returned.

Free advice: Never, never, never buy a used trailer and moove it somewhere else!!! trust me, it's just too much trouble. But if you do, please hire a professional who has done it for years.

Torture charges against Bush

I'm not normally into conspiracy theories. This rising crescendo of stories in the Legacy Media, after they had died down when the Abu Graib people started to be tried in court. Then the Newsweek story of a Qu'ran flushing was exposed as false seemed to have ignited a flurry of stories released for the sole purpose of distracting people from the lack of journalistic integrity practiced by Isikoff et al. There are too many stories for that scenario. I am now suspecting that all these stories are coming out now are directed at the Bush administration. With Amnesty International becoming involved, I begin to start looking for, if not an international conspiracy, then for (at the very least) a whole group of people with similar talking points. They are willing to broadcast shaky allegations in support of an ideological attack. To get incendiary myself, this puts them in the same league as the Nazi propagandist Goebbels. A Pox on all their houses, I say.

Never again will I be able to trust the Media on ANY story. I'll always wonder about the political motivation behind even a fluff piece. I'll look for corroboration in multiple media types.

It does seem ironic that Watergate is in the news again with the revelation of Deep Throat after all these years. I think it is appropriate that the confidential source is a gov't employee in both cases, and both spiralled out of control and effected a change in the larger society in ways that couldn't be foretold. I think that MediaGate will result in further alienation of the average joe from all types of media. I can't see where this is leading, but I do do know where it is coming from.

Has Amnestry International ever read the Third Geneva Convention?

Amnesty International has not only committed a terrible faux pas, it has put the cross hairs directly on itself with its recent announcement about Gitmo. To sum their latest outrage up, they said the U.S. was violating the rights of detainees held at that location.

First of all, they are not detainees, they are "illegal armed combatant detainees" (well not armed anymore), in short TERRORISTS.

According to the Geneva Convention of 1949, in Article 43 Section 1, it states that:

Such armed forces shall be sunject to an internal disciplinary system which, 'inter alia', shall enforce compliance with the rules of international law applicable in armed conflict.

I think that we all recall the execution of hostages in Iraq. That's not according to international law. Now, if the leaders of this 'insurgency' in Iraq were to punish the ones who ordered and carried out these executions, then we'd be on the right track. I'm not holding my breath. Come to think of it, Amnesty International hasn't kicked up too much of a fuss about those executions. Wonder why?

Now on to the 'detainees' and their status. According to the Geneva Convention of 1949, to be accorded POW status, armed combatants must wear uniforms (strike), carry arms openly and distinguish themselves from the civilian population (strike).

Seems to me we coulda just shot them right then and there, but being softies, we figured that 'Abdullah' just might have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, and cut him some slack to investigate further. And also, if he was shooting at us, well, he's off the goat trail now.

Guys we have captured under these conditions have NO RIGHTS. Certainly none under OUR CONSTITUTION. Heck, if we needed to squeeze a little info out of them, all bets are off. We've even shown them exceeding amounts of mercy. Brand new prayer hats, rugs, Qu'rans, prayer beads, even pointing the way to Mecca for them and letting them now the proper times to pray.

I don't believe these hoodlums have even entertained the idea of allowing a hostage to have the proper implements of whatever their religion was, do you? in fact, the Saudis will shred a Bible if someone brings one into the country.

Gotta go, maybe I'll be in a better mood later. Still coughing up a storm.

I've added links and am feeling better

I've added some links I think are interesting. I still need to figure out how to put them in useful categories, like news, blogs I like, Space Stuff, TV Stuff, local news and so on. Most of the time, until I get moved in to my new place, I only have internet access from, say midnight to 6am. SInce I am usually asleep by 8pm, my margin is kinda slim right now. On Saturdays, or when it rains, I can go to the public library or Western Carolina's Hunter Library and get some time.

This morning, I've bought some expectorant (cough, cough, spit, eww!), and look forward to feeling much better. I bet I've slept 30 - 40 hours in the past two and a half days!

I left work early Wednesday due to a bad sore throat that got increasingly worse throughout the day and when I started exhibiting flu-like symptoms, I booked. Thursday was pretty rough. I slept pretty much the whole day, and sipped on TheraFlu and beef broth. I don't feel as weak now, but i still have this annoying sore throat that only hurts when I try to swallow. At first I thought it was strep, but now I believe it could have been tonsilitis?

No comments on the news because I haven't really cared or been concious enough to pay attention. I did manage to get through on "Take A Stand with Matt Mittan" on Wednesday before I gave in to sickness. Matt opened his show with a rare focus on international events, with Iraq, North Korea, and China being discussed and he couldn't see why we were in Iraq when the DPRK was more of a threat.

I had to wait on hold for 22 minutes before I got through, with most of my points still not brought up. My thoughts on why we were in Iraq was the "honeypot" theory that our forces attract terrorists to Iraq instead of here, and with an Eye toward future actions in Iran and/or Syria in addition to getting rid of Saddam.

I agreed that the DPRK was a more serious threat and should be handled differently. I pointed out that missile defense needed improvement before we went in to safeguard against a possible missile launch. The biggest threat, in my opinion, is the threat of an EMP attack. It would be far more devastating than a nuclear attack on a west coast city, as horrible as that would be to our nation. Others and the host brought up theories I hadn't considered and kinda scared me. More later when I feel better.

The real power in America is with the judges

This whole filibuster battle is over appointing judges that have the ability to overturn legislation, executive decisions, and the will of the people. That is the crux of all the rhetoric. Our constitutional Republic is sliding toward a tyranny ruled by judges. One of the next things to watch for is an attempt to do away with the electoral college because that keeps one region of the nation from dominating the others due to population.

Yesterday at work I killed a six-foot snake with a dull machete one of the mexicans threw to me. That is something I could do without. The local talk shows were good, even the money man, Doug Alden, had some interesting things to say. My local internet provider has a daily poll, and it concerned the filibuster debate.
