Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Dry high pressure will continue over the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia through most of the week. Temperatures will steadily warm through the period, reaching about 15 degrees above normal by the middle of next week. A cold front will approach from the northwest on Thursday and cross the area Friday through Friday night, bringing modest rain chances to the region.


Two Die in Structure Fire Saturday Morning

An early morning fire on Saturday, November 4th, claimed the lives of a mother and child at their home off Wide Horizon Drive. The following from from the Franklin Fire Department's Facebook Page (no press release was issued to this outlet):

"Early this morning, crews responded to a house fire in the Wide Horizon area of Macon County. It is with a heavy heart that we report there were two family members that perished in the fire. Franklin Fire Rescue will not be releasing any information out of respect for the family.

We are asking for donations for two of the survivors; a two-year-old male and an adult male with the following sizes:

- 2T/3T Boy clothing 
- Toddler size 11 shoes / socks 
- Men’s Large 
- Men’s 33/32 pants 
- Size 11.5 shoes / socks

The family has lost everything in the fire. Items they could use may include: winter clothes, diapers, toys, household items, etc.

Donations can be dropped off at our fire station located at 49 Maple st.

Friday Morning Fire Leaves Family Homeless

A fire on Friday morning on Roller Mill Road rendered a family of six homeless. Efforts to assist this family have been established at GoFundMe [LINK] and via a phone number:

Macon County is under an Air Quality Alert due to the Collett Ridge Fire and the numerous backfires that have been lit in an effort to combat the fire.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality in Raleigh NC has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates for Macon and Polk Counties, until midnight EST tonight.



An Air Quality Action Day means that Fine Particulates concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.
