School Board Votes to Resume In-Person Instruction Next Week

OUTLOOK

A moist, easterly fetch off the Atlantic will maintain muggy conditions with scattered showers and thunderstorms through Saturday. Unsettled weather is expected to continue Sunday into Monday ahead of a cold front which will bring cooler and drier air to the region on Tuesday.

Areas of fog may persist later in the morning. A slight chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with highs ranging from the mid-70s in the higher elevations to the mid-80s in the lower elevations. Calm winds. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog after 11pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with lows in the 60s. Calm winds. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon, then showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Mostly cloudy, with highs ranging from near 70 in the higher elevations to near 80 in the lower elevations. Calm winds in the morning increasing to come out of the southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Pollen levels will be medium-high today with ragweed, grasses, and chenopods being the main allergens wafting around. The good news is that rain tomorrow is expected to drop allergen levels down to low levels.

School Board Votes to Resume In-Person Instruction Beginning Monday, September 14th; Franklin High School May Begin Two-Days a Week Instruction on September 28th

On a motion made by Tommy Cabe and seconded by Fred Goldsmith, the Board approved by a 5-0 vote to lift the suspension of face-to-face instruction for Macon Middle School, Mountain View Intermediate School and Union Academy. Students at Macon Middle School, Mountain View Intermediate School and Union Academy will return to their face-to-face, Plan B schedule beginning Monday, September 14, 2020. Fridays will remain a remote learning day. All Franklin area K-4 schools as well as Macon Early College, Highlands School and Nantahala School will continue on with their current plan.

On a motion made by Tommy Cabe and seconded by Fred Goldsmith, the Board voted 4-1, with Stephanie McCall opposing the motion, to approve Franklin High School’s request to lift the suspension of face-to-face instruction for Franklin High School. Students at Franklin High School will return to their face-to-face, Plan B schedule on Monday, September 14, 2020. Freshmen will attend on Mondays, Sophomores on Tuesdays, Juniors on Wednesdays, and Seniors on Thursdays. Fridays will remain a remote learning day for everyone. The expectation is for Franklin High School students to begin face-to-face instruction two days per week no later than September 28, 2020 or as soon as all social distancing protocols can be met.
