OUTLOOK

This is an abbreviated news and weather briefing.

Above-normal afternoon temperatures and dry weather will return again today. A strong cold front will enter the area Friday, however, bringing chances for light precipitation and ushering in cold weather for the weekend. Light accumulating snow may return to the mountains at times Friday through Sunday.

• A drive though COVID-19 testing clinic has been scheduled for the Nantahala Community on January 19th at the Nantahala EMS Base located at 1096 Junaluska Road. The clinic will be held from 10AM until 2PM or until tests run out. Persons may get a COVID-19 test regardless of their ability to pay and do not need to schedule an appointment. This is for TESTING ONLY. This is NOT a COVID-19 vaccine administration location.

HAZARDS

There could be some black ice on area rodways this morning as a result of freezing fog, so remember to turn out your headlights so others can see you and proceed with caution on the roadways if you cannot delay your trip until after temperatures rise above freezing.

...Patchy Dense Freezing Fog Possible This Morning...

Patchy dense fog continues to develop across the region early this morning. Temperatures in the 20s to lower 30s will foster freezing fog for the areas of most dense fog. Visibility of less than one half mile and frost on elevated road surfaces are possible during the morning commute. If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you. Also, be alert for frost on bridge decks causing slippery roads.
