News and Weather Briefing for Friday, January 15, 2021

OUTLOOK

This is an abbreviated news and weather briefing.

A strong cold front will track into the area Friday. This front will bring the chance for bursts of snow today into early Sunday Morning for the North Carolina Mountains, leading to light snowfall accumulations. This front should lead to rain across the lower elevations. Monday another low pressure system brings the potential for snow showers for the mountains. Tuesday high pressure builds into the region leading to drier conditions.

News Highlights

• Macon County Schools will be closed on Monday for Martin Luther King Day and will (due to "an unavailability" of school nurses) have a virtual learning day (except for Macon Early College) on Tuesday the 19th. Meals will be delivered. In-person instruction will resume on Wednesday the 20th.

• A drive though COVID-19 testing clinic has been scheduled for the Nantahala Community on January 19th at the Nantahala EMS Base located at 1096 Junaluska Road.
