OUTLOOK

This is an abbreviated news and weather briefing.

A moist warm front will lift through the Deep South today before a trailing cold front crosses the forecast area on Tuesday. Brief, dry high pressure returns late Tuesday before an area of low pressure brings precipitation back Wednesday into early Thursday. Canadian high pressure will return dry conditions Thursday afternoon through Saturday.

A coastal low pressure system will develop Wednesday through Wednesday night as an upper level disturbance arrives from the west. Snow showers will likely develop across the North Carolina mountains during this period and some accumulations are likely, especially along the higher elevations. Winter Weather Advisories could be needed soon. Very windsy conditions are also possible Wednesday night into Thursday.

At last night's school board meeting, Superintendent Dr Baldwin informed board members that 158 students and 22 staff were out of school due to either being tested positive for COVID-19, or having to be isolated due to possible exposure. Earlier in the day, the school system released information regarding newly positive cases at area schools.
