Weekend News and Weather Briefing for Sunday, February 18, 2024

Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Expect a brief winter mix at the higher elevations this morning before cooler and drier weather spreads over the area and lingers through the middle of next week. A dry, warming trend will then develop, with temperatures climbing well above normal for mid February.

INCREASED FIRE DANGER TODAY

Very dry air in place across the region will permit afternoon relative humidity values to fall to between 20 and 25 percent for several hours across the region. Although winds will be fairly light from the southwest, drying fuels and brush will combine with the dry air to increase fire danger this afternoon.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
