News and Weather Briefing for Wednesday, February 21, 2024

Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Dry high pressure will remain over the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia through today. A cold front will approach from the west on Thursday and cross the region bringing some rain Thursday night through Friday morning. Dry weather returns for the weekend as another front settles south into the region. Well above normal temperatures are expected early next week.

INCREASED FIRE DANGER TODAY

Dry air in place across the region will permit afternoon relative humidity values to fall to between 30 and 35 percent for several hours across the region today. Although winds will be fairly light from the southwest, drying fuels and brush will combine with the dry air to increase fire danger this afternoon.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use caution since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
