Moisture will return ahead of a deep low pressure system today, with heavy rain possible in some areas by late Wednesday into Thursday. Expect a sharp cold frontal passage late Thursday which will usher in much colder and drier weather to end the week. Below normal temperatures are expected to continue into next week.

Hazards and Tropical Weather

Deep subtropical moisture will shift over the region today ahead of an approaching cold front. Periods of heavy rainfall are expected tonight and Thursday morning. A threat of localized flash flooding may evolve in that time period, especially along south- and east-facing ridges of the Appalachians, and in any areas where soils remain saturated from recent rainfall.
