GENERAL OUTLOOK

A low pressure system and weak cold front approaching from the west will increase rain chances, mainly late today into Saturday. High pressure and drier conditions return New Year`s Day into Monday. A stronger cold front and associated moisture will approach from the west next Tuesday and slowly cross the region through Wednesday, bringing widespread rain and perhaps some thunderstorms.

Rain showers will develop over the region early Saturday and continue off and on through the day. The showers may be heavy at times, especially over the southwestern North Carolina mountains, western Upstate South Carolina, and far northeast Georgia. A few spots in these areas may see rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches by late Saturday. Isolated flooding is not out of the question.
