GENERAL OUTLOOK

A light wintry mix is expected across the area ahead of a strong arctic cold front today and tonight. Arrival of the front on Friday will plunge temperatures and wind chills with the gusty winds. Expect below normal temperatures and dry conditions into the middle of next week.

• Special Meeting of the Macon County Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education for December 21, 2022 [Macon Media]

Hazardous weather is not expected today, but over the next few days we will see increased chances of winter weather and experience dangerous wind chills and high winds that may lead to power outages.

Precipitation will change again over to snow tonight and linger into Friday across the mountains. Only light snow accumulations are expected, but roads may still be wet as temperatures quickly fall below freezing, resulting in areas of black ice by Friday afternoon. Arctic air will spread over the region Friday, producing strong, gusty winds and dangerous wind chill values that will continue through the weekend. Gusts of 35 to 55 mph may cause travel difficulties, downed trees, and power outages. Water in poorly insulated or open pipes could freeze due to the prolonged duration of the cold temperatures.
