The Franklin Town Council discussed and approved purchase contracts for obtaining properties located at 311 Clyde Street and 196 Palmer Street.

The property at 311 Clyde Street is half an acre in size and located next to the East Franklin Water Tower and is intended for future use by the town when the time comes to expand water capacity on that side of town. John Henning, Jr., the town attorney, expressed appreciation that the owner was willing to let it go for basically the tax value. The town council approved the contract by a vote of 5-0. Councilman Mike Lewis was absent.

The quarter-acre property at 196 Palmer Street, known locally as the old Texaco station, sits next to the Franklin Fire Station and Franklin Police department and will be useful when water and sewer line improvements are needed and will allow for the improvement of sidewalks in the area. Councilman Jack Horton addressed environmental concerns and the town attorney relayed that the property had some environmental remediation. The purchase contract for $180,000 was approved by a vote of 4-1, with Councilman David Culpepper voting against and Mike Lewis was absent.
