Outlook

A developing low-pressure system off the Southeast coast will allow for rain and wintry weather to spread across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia today and tonight. High pressure will move into the area for the weekend, allowing for dry conditions to prevail, with rain chances returning early next week with the next approaching system.


Macon County Schools Schedule for Today, 02-21-2020

Franklin area schools are closed, an optional workday for teachers.
Nantahala school is closed, an optional workday for teachers.
Highlands School No word was relayed to Macon Media.


Candidate Forum February 22

The Smoky Mountain Republican Women is sponsoring a forum for congressional candidates this Saturday, February 22, from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. in the meeting room of United Community Bank, located at 132 Rodney Orr By-pass in Robbinsville.

Candidates for other races will be allowed to speak.

“Everyone is invited to come and participate. Candidates need to know which issues are important to people in the westernmost part of the state,” said Charlene Hogue, club president.

There will be no admission fee charged for the forum and light refreshments will be provided.

Weather Hazards

Any water running off or left standing from the rain and light snow (LOL) we received late Thursday will freeze on untreated road surfaces during the pre-dawn hours on today. Patchy black ice can be expected, especially on secondary roads and residential streets, during the morning commute today.

Temperatures are expected to climb back above freezing around noon or 1 pm in the mountain valleys, but will probably stay below freezing all day above 3500 feet.
