* WHAT...Visibility one-quarter mile or less in freezing fog.

* WHERE...In South Carolina, Oconee County Mountains. In Georgia, Rabun County. In North Carolina, Macon County.

* WHEN...Until 9 AM EST this morning.

* IMPACTS...Hazardous driving conditions due to low visibility in fog and a potential icing glaze developing on bridges.

Special Weather Statement
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
912 PM EST Sat Feb 8 2020

...PATCHY BLACK ICE LIKELY TONIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY ACROSS THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA...

A fairly large area of snow and rain fell over the Western Carolinas and Northeast Georgia today. Temperatures are expected to drop to near or below freezing over most locations by late tonight. Any lingering water on surfaces could refreeze creating slick conditions. Bridges and overpasses will be especially prone to black ice development. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while driving. In addition, areas of fog may develop across the area late tonight and early Sunday. Where temperatures drop to near or below freezing, there is a chance that some freezing fog could develop which could cause roads, bridges and overpasses to become slick.

Temperatures are expected to warm above freezing by late Sunday morning, ending the threat for black ice and freezing fog.

Flood Watch
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
327 AM EST Sun Feb 9 2020

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT BEGINNING MONDAY AFTERNOON AS HEAVY RAIN RETURNS TO THE AREA...

.Beginning Monday afternoon, a stalled frontal boundary will bring moderate to heavy rainfall to the southwest North Carolina mountains, parts of northeast Georgia, and far western Upstate South Carolina. With the ground saturated from heavy rainfall last week and rivers still running high, flooding impacts are possible in areas that see more heavy rain Monday night.

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Flood Watch for portions of northeast Georgia, western North Carolina, and upstate South Carolina, including the following areas:

In northeast Georgia: Franklin, Habersham, Rabun, and Stephens.

In western North Carolina: Graham, Haywood, Macon, Northern Jackson, Southern Jackson, Swain, and Transylvania.

In upstate South Carolina: Greater Oconee, Greater Pickens, Oconee Mountains, and Pickens Mountains.

* from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening

* Rainfall amounts of 2-3 inches (locally higher in some spots) Monday night and Tuesday are expected, which may lead to new flooding and worsen conditions in areas that have not yet recovered from flooding last week. Saturated ground and continued high river and stream levels may lead to flooding developing quickly.

* Rapid rises above bankfull on streams and creeks may occur, along with the threat of flooded roadways. Flooding is also likely to re-develop on larger rivers. The heavy rainfall will also greatly increase the risk of landslides.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
