Weather Hazards

Dense fog is expected to form this morning, so slow down on your morning commute and turn on your headlights so other people can see your vehicle. A wind advisory is scheduled to take effect from 4pm this afternoon until 7pm tomorrow night, so you may want to secure loose objects and be prepared for potential power outages. Temperatures are also expected to drop below freezing, and combined with high winds, dangerous wind chill values will result, making it hazardous on exposed skin oven ight tonight and tomorrow night. More details about each of these hazards is posted below for your convenience.

*********
DENSE FOG
*********

Patchy dense fog will continue through the morning across portions of Northeast Georgia, the western Upstate, and the North Carolina mountains. The dense fog will be more likely near lakes and rivers and in mountain valleys. The fog will reduce visibility to one quarter miles at times.

Drivers should use caution this morning as visibilities will vary greatly and change quickly. Be especially cautions near lakes and rivers and in mountain valleys. Allow extra travel time, use low beam headlights and fog lamps, and allow extra stopping distance. The fog should dissipate around 9 AM.

*************
WIND ADVISORY
*************

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 7 PM EST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Northwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected.

* WHERE...Much of western North Carolina.

* WHEN...From 4 PM this afternoon to 7 PM EST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.

****************
TEMPERATURE DROP
****************

Temperatures will fall rapidly this evening behind a passing cold front, bringing snow showers to the higher elevations and locations along and near the North Carolina/Tennessee Border. This will cause slippery conditions on some roadways. In addition, wind gusts in the 35 to 45 mph range are likely Wednesday night and Thursday over the higher elevations, topping 50 mph at some ridge top locations.
